WordPress 3.6 goes live with release name “Oscar”

WordPress the most used content management system (CMS), released its latest version WordPress 3.6. The new version has many features like bullet-proof autosave and post locking, a revamped revision browser, native support for audio and video embeds, and improved integrations with Spotify, Rdio, and SoundCloud. WordPress 3.6 also brings new blog-centric theme Twenty Thirteen. This release was introduced on 1 August, 2013.

Twenty Thirteen Theme

This is a single column theme having sidebar and widgets in footer. This theme is specially built to make visitors focus on content. This theme aims in media-rich blogging. This theme features flexible layout so this theme looks good on any device, mobile, tablet or desktop pc. This theme is based on responsive web design which makes it fit into any screen of any resolution.

Revisions Revamped

Now whenever you change something in blog it will get saved automatically in server and also locally. The new interface will allow you to check the revisions line-by-line who changed what and when.

Post Locking and Augmented Autosaves

This is the most required feature as it will be boon to blogs having multiple authors. Now each author will have their own autosave stream which will store changes on server as well as locally.

HTML 5 Media Player (Built-in)

Now the bloggers don’t have to rely on external services to embed media on their blog. WordPress 3.6 has built-in HTML 5 player which provides native audio and video embeds.

Menu Editor

The old menu editor is enhanced for easy management.

Integration with Spotify, Rdio, and SoundCloud

Now with enhanced media embedding feature you can embed songs, albums and playlist from Spotify, Rdio and Soundcloud by just pasting the URL on post.

  2. Use the automatic update present on Dashboard.
