Its a big question while starting a website “Which Hosting is best ?”. Although it all depends upon how much your primary need. While starting a website basically the traffic counts to “zero”, so any hosting that provides maximum uptime is best. You may come up with things like unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space. But this isn’t true because the are not like what is promised by the hosting service providers. As the traffic increases the hosting service provider will ask you to upgrade your current hosting plan as they cannot support that much amount of traffic under the plan you are presently. Then again the question arises which plan suits the best ?
Basically web hosting provider provides three types of hosting services.
- Shared Hosting
- Dedicated Server Hosting
- Virtual Private Servers
Starting with shared hosting, in this type of hosting service a server will be shared by multiple number of websites having limited resources (like connections, space and bandwidth). So high performance is not guaranteed. Its basically best suited for starting a new website.
Now comes Dedicated Server Hosting, in this type of hosting service the user will get a separate server. It suits best for webmasters having number of websites (say 50 approx) with high traffic in it. This type of server offers high reliability and and performance.
Lastly but important is the Virtual Private Server, in this type of hosting service there will will be same server for as many users (just like shared hosting), but each user will have his own separate privacy and resources (just like dedicated hosting). This type of server features combination of both shared hosting and dedicated server hosting.
Now as the type of server is decided next thing is the type of operating system running in the servers you opted. Two operating systems options are available, viz, Windows based and Linux based.
Windows Based Server: Being a Microsoft product, popular application softwares like Access and MS SQL databases. For developers it will support .NET and many other things like Active ServerPages (ASP), Visual Basic Scripts, etc. This hosting will be a little bit costly than Linux based servers.
Linux Based Servers: Only problem with this is that Microsoft based products cannot run in this type of server. But Linux being open-source itself has a wide number of application available all over internet. This type of server is cheap also compared to windows based server and also provides high speed and less crashes.
