Optimize Android smartphone's battery lifeAndroid smartphone’s are now days much popular among all of us and the major handset making companies like HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, etc have opted for android operating system. Although their are many things to take care after purchasing the android based phone and one of them is optimising the battery life. Battery life is much important because one may get into a situation where it is not possible to use a phone charger.

The following tips will help out optimizing your smartphone’s battery life for better experience. I am taking the settings available in Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone and running android version 2.3.4. Settings may vary with other phones.

Increase Android Smartphone’s Battery life with these tips

Tip 1 – Screen Timeout: Screen timeout is the time value before the screen goes blank. Lowering the value will help saving battery power.

  • Open the applications tab and then search for Settings.
  • Now open Display from the menu.
  • Now in the Dispaly Settings tab and open Screen Timeout and then set it to a lower value, say 15 seconds.
Tip 2 – Disable WiFi and Bluetooth: Wireless LAN (WiFi) and Bluetooth are the two things which consumes the battery to a greater extent. Disabling these two when not in use will effectively improve the battery performance of the phone.
  • Open the applications tab and then search for Settings.
  • Now open Wireless and networks.
  • Now you will find two settings, Wi-Fi settings and Bluetooth settings. Open the respective settings and disable them by un-checking the check-boxes.
Tip 3 – Switch to 2G network: In comparison to networks available (say 2G and 3G), 2G consumes less power. Thus switching to 2G network will be effective in saving battery power.
  • Open the applications tab and then search for Settings.
  • Now open Wireless and networks.
  • Now open Mobile networks, and now open Network mode and select GSM only.
Tip 4 – Reduce the brightness of screen: Reducing the brightness of the screen will also effectively improve battery performance.
  • Open the applications tab and then search for Settings.
  • Now open Display from the menu.
  • In Display settings, set the brightness to the lower value which you feel comfortable.
Tip 5 – Disable GPS Services: GPS is something to watch out as it also requires greater power for working and disabling its services will definitely improve the battery performance.
  • Open the applications tab and then search for Settings.
  • Now open Location and Security, and un-check  Use GPS satellites check-box.
