Android 4.4 is coming soon, You heard it right ! The next generation Android will fix up many issues especially it is expected to fix the low-memory support.
The new Android version is named as KitKat. Surprised that how Google gone with the name of a chocolate ? The answer lies on the android website. The website mentions the story behind code naming Android 4.4 as Android KitKat.
The website states, “Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!”
KitKat is a popular chocolate product from Nestle. Google and Nestle have joined hands which led to the name of Android 4.4 as Android KitKat.

As of now the features of Android KitKat are not clear and mostly are either expected or are hinted.
Google may use Linux 3.8 kernel which uses low memory. As of now mid range and high range smartphones which 512 MB or more RAM supports new Android versions 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 Jelly Bean. Even Nexus S is not upgradable to Android 4.2 due to these issues. Low memory usage will allow some lower end devices to have the taste of Android KitKat.
Android KitKat updates on devices
Google will firstly push the Android 4.4 update on its Nexus devices. It is expected to be seen first on Nexus 5 smartphone, after that next line of devices are LG Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 10.
It is also in news that Android KitKat will featured on Nexus 11 tablet, which is rumoured to be in development.
Once Nexus devices gets updates, next on the follow up will be Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, HTC One family, Sony Xperia Z devices and LG G2.
Android KitKat release date
Google will not let user wait for Android KitKat update for long time. Already Google have presented its status on its headquarters. Expect the update release date to be in October or November 2013 on Nexus 5 which will demonstrate the features and updates of the new OS.
