Its IPv6 launch Day: next generation of internet addresses

Its June 6th, 2012, IPv6 launch day. The next generation of internet addresses IPv6 has finally arrived. It means major ISP’s (Internet Service Providers), networking hardware manufacturers and search engines are coming together to enable IPv6 for their products and services from today.


Ipv6 is believed to remove the anonymity around the world wide web as it has network security integrated into its architecture with IPsec as an option to enable.

The length of IPv6 address is 128 bits compared to 32 bits in IPv4. Thus, IPv6 will let trillions of internet addresses being created, thus the problem of shortage of internet address with IPv4 will finally get solved.

IPv6 launch Day means the following features will be available

  • New header format
  • Large address space
  • Efficient and hierarchical addressing and routing infrastructure
  • Stateless and stateful address configuration
  • Built-in security
  • Better support for quality of service (QoS)
  • New protocol for neighboring node interaction
  • Extensibility

IPv6 launch day is a historical day for the world wide web. Web community were eagerly waiting for this day from a long time.
